Hello, here’s your Aviation Briefing for Wednesday 6 April 2022.
In the UK, many airlines are in crisis — and we’re not talking about the wider crisis of the pandemic that hit air travel ever since the emergence of COVID. We’re in new territory now. Over 1,100 UK flights were cancelled over the last week, as airlines including British Airways and easyJet face the perfect storm.
First, UK airlines – like other airlines in large markets such as the US — are very short of staff. British Airways, which removed over 13,000 employees from its workforce once COVID hit, is now facing a period of immense disruption due to its staff shortages, and the airline is desperately trying to introduce new recruits or assist those who were previously made redundant back into the workplace.
